The world's first 2,000-metric-ton electric boat was launched Sunday in the southern city of Guangzhou.

The 70.5-meter self-unloading ship is powered by a lithium battery pack with a capacity of 2,400 kilowatt-hours and a super capacitor. It can reach 12.8 kilometers per hour at most and can cruise up to 80 kilometers after getting fully charged for two hours.

The electric cargo vessel does not burn fuel oil during its voyage and has zero exhaust emissions.
